Rethymno Youth Hostel has always been the most sociable landmark since tourism started on the island of Crete years ago and a home away from home for travellers who wish to make new friends and discover from its very central position the endless natural and historical beauties of Crete .

Centrally positioned on the island of Crete, travelers can use our hostel as their base for day trips to the most attractive sites of the island like the Samaria Gorge, Elafonisi ' pink beach ' , Ballos beach , Lake of Kournas, Preveli beach , Knossos Palace , Festos Minoan town and lots more natural and archaeological sites in our area . Our helpful staff will always
be there to offer you the best tips .

Entering from the street you will find a historical Venetian building - overlooking one of the towns imposing minarets - with stone walls and wooden floors upstairs. Downstairs there is a beautiful patio surrounded by the green of our gardens for relaxation . 


We are set within a peaceful neighbourhood in the heart of Rethymno old town yet close to town's gorgeous long ( 10 km ) sandy beach and the whole island's most exciting nightlife !

In the evening you can chill out on our patio ,make use of our free WiFi , cook meals for yourselves or have a drink with your fellow travellers before heading out to the local bars and restaurants.

Do I need an international youth hostel membership card?

No. This hostel as most in Greece is privately owned and run.

How do I get to the hostel?

There are ferries everyday to Heraklion or Hania from Piraeus which leave at 21.00 hrs. Buses to Rethymno are available to ferry passengers as they disembark. There are regular bus services from both Chania and Heraklion every hour all day every day. Refer to the map on our homepage for walking directions from the bus station.

When is the hostel open?

The reception hours are from 09.00–13.00 and 17.00–23.00

How much is this going to cost me?

The prices are: 16€ per person per night during April, May and November, 18€ per person per night during June and October, 20€ per person per night during July, August and September. What sorts of room are available?

All the rooms in the hostel are dormitories most with 6-8 beds. There are no single or double rooms.

How long can I stay for?

A: There is no limit on how long you can stay. Students studying at the town's university and guests combining holiday and work often take advantage of our long-stay availability.

Am I too young/old to stay at your hostel?

There are no age limits. We often have more mature hostellers visiting us and joining the fun. Family groups are welcome but due to the demand in high season we must have a reservation well in advance.

Do we need to bring sleeping bags/sheets?

It is advisable to bring your own if possible. We do have a limited number of winter blankets, sheets and towels (free of charge). 

Does your hostel organize trips and activities?

Our hostel has a wealth of information and knowledge available about the local area and environment. You can find information about the hostel activities on the Location tab or just ask our friendly manager when here.

Rethymno is one of the four prefectures of Crete stretching from the White Mountains to Mount Psiloritis - bordered by the prefectures Chania and Heraklion. Rethymno with its 25,000 inhabitants is the capital of the prefecture. Rethymno today counts 263 villages with an average number of 200 residents.
The climate is mild Mediterranean and particularly dry and warm. There is sunshine on 245 days of the year and temperatures range from 12° to 27° C. The prevailing winds are northerly and north-westerly with occasional strong hot southerlies from the African continent.
